GALLERY and VIDEO: Emerging bands entice potential fans

NORTH RIDING – Up-and-coming bands entertain music lovers at Smugglers Pub with a variety of music genres.

The first Rock ‘n Rule gigs for bands for 2016, took place on 16 January at Smugglers Pub in North Riding. The gig gives an opportunity to up-and-coming bands in Johannesburg to be heard, and will be taking place every second Saturday.

The gig made for an exciting, head-banging, rock music experience. Smoke and bright stage lights filled the stage, while the eight bands performing had a chance to introduce their music to potential fans. The bands performing included, Down with the Beat, Indie-Go Music, Press Attack, Sinthesis, Boxing the Compass, WorldWarMe, Jasper Dan and Forced Removal.

According to Simon Foulds of Emerging Sounds, the initiative that organises the gigs, the bands that perform at these gigs play a variety of music genres including rock, metal, pop and other. He explained that people pay a small entrance fee to attend the Rock ‘n Rule gig. Half of the entrance fee goes to the band that is playing at that time. “Bands market their own gigs. The more fans that come, the better for them. It makes for a great vibe,” said Foulds.

Each of the eight emerging bands that played had a fan base supporting them. Music lovers sang along to well-known cover songs, but happily danced along to the band’s original numbers. Foulds, who is also apart of Battle of the Bands, mentioned that he likes to give an opportunity to bands to make a name for themselves. The gig hosted a variety of bands of all ages, playing a variety of instruments, a sure excitement for all music lovers.
