NORTHGATE – Africa gets to experience the BET Experience for the first time.

The first BET Experience Africa took place at Northgate Ticketpro Dome on 12 December.

The festival was extremely busy, with so many diverse activities. The festival stage was incredible with South African talent such as women rappers Patty Monroe, Fifi Cooper and Gigi Lamayne. Performances by the phenomenal hip-hop group WTF and song of the year artist at the SA Hip-Hop awards, Emtee wowed crowds.

Guests enjoyed the festival during the day with events such as the Genius Talks hosted by journalist Nikiwe Bikitsha where she interviewed the likes of Fikile Mbalula, the Minister of Sport and Recreation, business woman Khanyi Dhlomo, Kaya FM managing director Greg Maloka and many others.

Comedians such as David Kau, David Goliath, Tats Nkonzo, Celeste Ntuli and a few others brought some chuckles to the comedy stage. Professional car drifters got the crowd excited when two drifters showed what they were made of.

The festival ended off with a bang at the heated celebrity basketball game. Team Touch and Team Mbalula went head to head with some celebrities showing off their basketball skills. TV presenter Scoop and rapper Ricky Rick showed that if they where not in entertainment, they would definitely have a sports career. Team Touch won the game after a draw and over-time with 19 to 15 points.

The experience ended off with the concert inside the Dome where SA artist AKA gave a controversial, but exciting performance by doing his ‘diss track’ directed at rapper Cassper “Fill up the Dome” Nyovest.

African artists Flavour and Diamond Platnumz added some northern flavour with their classics; American rapper Young Thug had the crowd jumping up and down; US singer Raphael Saadiq had his first performance in SA and his fans came out in droves while Mary J Blige gave an outstanding and emotional performance with songs from most of her albums. Maxwell closed off the evening in style.

The first BET experience seemed to have been a huge success with thousands of people attending and it will surely get bigger from here on.
