GALLERY: Halloween at The Brightwater Commons

PRESIDENT RIDGE – Elaborate Halloween costumes filled Brightwater Commons with spooky attendants.

It was a night of horrors at The Brightwater Commons on 31 October when it held its annual Halloween night.

The event called on all lovers of the sinister eve to come dressed up as their favourite horror characters. Festivities began at 4pm and guests were greeted by witches on stilts, jumping castles, zombie jugglers and not forgetting the biggest treat for rugby fans, watching the Rugby World Cup 2015 final between Australia and New Zealand on a big screen. For the courageous, there was a haunted house to walk through that forced some parents’ blood pressure to rise a few notches.

Crowds also gathered on the large lawns to watch fellow attendants showcase their elaborate costumes. This competition was held for young and old. It was not only filled with dedicated Halloween-loving children but also parents who decided to dress up and really get into the spooky side of things.

The audience was left with their jaws dropping at the President Ridge-based shopping centre, after the talented violinist, Caitlin de Ville played her violin while being harnessed and swung over the amazed audience. Residents were also treated to the musical talents of Jacques Terre’Blanche, an Idols 2003 finalist who entertained the crowd with his soulful voice.

Desiree Munien said that she enjoyed the free fall ride and the haunted house. She added that she attended the halloween night as she enjoyed dressing up.

First-time attendee, Jacques Swanevelder said that he did not enjoy the haunted house because it was not scary enough, but enjoyed seeing everyone dressed up.

Winnifred Ntombela said that she attended the event because the son wanted to attend. “I really enjoyed seeing the different costumes and seeing my son happy.”

A competition for the best-dressed attendees was held, with prizes going to winners of the 4–8, 9–12 and 13–adult age groups.
