GALLERY: Bollywood makes its mark in SA musical theatre

NORTH RIDING – Indian dancing makes its way to the Montecasino Teatro with the production Blame it on Bollywood.

The Indian dancing theatrical show, Blame it on Bollywood, is set to captivate audiences from 6 to 11 October at the Montecasino Teatro.

Nicol Sheraton (33), who resides in North Riding, will step on the stage for the first time in this dancing category.

Sheraton said his original future plans were to become a journalist, but at the age of 14, he was introduced to the world of dancing and loved it immediately.

“Dancing is more than just something I love – it is the passion that drives me daily,” said Sheraton.

At the age of 18, he received the FNB Vita Award and after that he became a resident dancer at Sun City.

Since then Sheraton has made an appearance in well-known musicals such as Chicago, Mamma Mia, Dream Girls and Starlight Express.

He recently choreographed the production Sister Act that was showcased at the Johannesburg Theatre.

Sheraton said he feels honoured to be part of the production and loves the dancing style.

“I have been fortunate to learn numerous dancing styles throughout my life such as ballet, hip-hop and jazz but, this is by far the most interesting one,” said Sheraton.

He also added that he is positive about the future and excited to see what it holds for him.

Sheraton said his biggest dream is to open his own musical theatre where he can host productions such as Blame it on Bollywood and many others.

His advice to young aspiring actors and musicians is to work hard and always go the extra mile.
