GALLERY: Heritage Month launched

BRAAMFONTEIN – The Mayor of Joburg welcomes the beginning of Heritage Month.

Joburg Theatre hosted Executive Mayor of Joburg councillor Mpho Parks Tau, to mark the beginning of Heritage Month and Tourism Month on 1 September.

Tau released a positive prediction for the month of September. He said, “The City of Joburg has already been confirmed as ‘a World Class African City’. It is the only African metropolis classed as a world city mainly because of our service provision in the fields of accountancy, banking, advertising and legal services.”

He continued, “As we welcome spring and unveil the diverse cultural offerings that will spoil all residents and visitors to Joburg for choice, we affirm through the arts our commitment to make Joburg a livable, safe, resource-efficient city…that is socially integrated, economically inclusive and globally competitive, where residents actively participate in urban and intellectual life.”

The event was supplemented with the promotion of three events that would take place throughout the month. The Arts Alive International Festival 2015  was announced to run from 5 to 27 September. The festival should feature local and international artists in the fields of literature, poetry, music and dance.

The 2015 Standard Bank Joy of Jazz Festival was also announced to run for its 18th year. The festival is the oldest jazz festival in South Africa and will feature a long line-up of local and international jazz artists.

Also announced was the Moshito Music Conference and Exhibition 2015, taking place from 10 to 12 September. Moshito aims to strengthen the business acumen of South African artists as well as provide a platform for networking and exhibition of music in a global market.
