First Ultimate Futsal in Randburg

MALANSHOF – Ultimate Futsal brings one of the only Futsal pitches to Randburg.

One of a kind Ultimate Futsal was officially opened to the public on 17 February.

Ultimate Futsal is one of the only pitches of its kind in Johannesburg.

The pitch is drastically smaller, in an enclosed area but with no walls.

The same rules apply as with normal field soccer.

Futsal is also played on a smooth surface.

Originating from Spain, it is slowly spreading throughout the world.

Coach Alex Barker commented, ” The smaller arena makes it easier for players to have more interaction with each other and the ball.”

According to co-owner Chris Keble, the word ‘Futsal’ means ‘fast soccer’ in Spanish.

”Although it is not very popular in South Africa I saw a gap in the market for this sport,” Keble explained.

Thus the dream of opening a Futsal arena arose.

Building started about six months ago at the Randburg Football Club and was opened with what else but a soccer game.

The team has started a partnership with Vuleka School Randburg to host weekly practises and games at the pitch.

“We have started with Vuleka as we saw they could benefit from a real soccer pitch to develop their skills.”

One of the pupils commented that it was fun to “play with all my school friends.”

Principal Peter Mmirwa of Vuleka School Randburg said, ”What I love most is to see how happy the kids are because everyone gets a chance to play.”

Ultimate Futsal is hoping to start a weekly Futsal club with leagues for the public.

“We are looking for sponsors to help us develop and grow this club in order to reach out to the greater community,” commented Keble.

Not only is it a fast and dynamic game, but it allows for every player to participate with the same feeling as 11-a-side soccer.
