Stories of the forgotten nation

LINDEN – Resident Shayne Robinson creates a project called 'Forgotten Nation'.

Lost but not forgotten, local resident Shayne Robinson has created a project called Forgotten Nations.

Forgotten Nations has been Robinson’s brain child for about two years in the making.

Working as a journalist, he was able to see towns through South Africa that have seemingly fallen off the map.

”I thought it would be cool to tell their stories before they disappear completely,” says Robinson, a Linden resident.

An example of the ghost towns he references is a small town in Nelspruit.

He visited a café that has been family operated for over 100 years.

The town is nearly completely empty due to the closing down of an asbestos mine.

Robinson remarks how this project is not meant to have a political agenda, rather it is encapsulating the effect of urbanisation.

He wishes to travel the country town through town where he will document and photograph the history of each town.

Robinson hopes to create a book that documents his main objectives.

Throughout the journey he will be creating video blogs loaded onto the Facebook and web page on www.photojournalist.co.za, to

keep the project a buzz.

In order to fuel this project Forgotten Nation needs funding.

Purely for transport, accommodation, fixers (local guides in the towns).

He is hoping to reach a total of R95 000 in order to accurately dedicate all of his times to these towns.

The first tier of funds he needs to reach in order to start the project is R35 000 for basic needs.

Also all donations and pledges can be made on www.thundafunds.com/ForgottenNations.
