Student models to represent Randburg

FONTAINEBLEAU – Figures Models Randburg selects its best to enter national competition.

Figures Models Randburg hosted its National Student Model of the Year 2014 semi-finals at Laerskool Fontainebleau on 29 November. In total, 83 of the organisation’s student models competed against each other for a chance to represent the Randburg branch at the Figures National Student Model of the Year 2014 Finals at Roodepoort Theatre between 12 and 14 December, where about R250 000 worth of prizes will be won.

The judges selected 34 models to go to the finals. The models competed in the following age groups: 2–6, 7–9, 10–12, 13–15 and 16+. “I was very impressed by the models,” said Figures Models Randburg owner Merlene Spies, who was also one of the judges. “They worked hard for this. There were a couple of new students that really surprised me.”

Another judge, Carlin du Toit, who sponsors modelling events for the renowned jewellery designer Jenna Clifford, said, “I thought that the models were very well trained. It was often not the most beautiful one that impressed.” She explained that Merlene clearly trained the models to be “well-rounded” and confident in their modelling, and this is good because these traits filter down to the rest of their lives.
