Firlands Children’s Home hosts annual fete

The community supports Firlands Children's Home annual fĂȘte.

Firlands Children’s Home hosted their annual fĂȘte on 30 August.

The crowd had a blast with plenty of stalls that sold everything from sports gear, books to clothes and crockery.

A number of demonstrations took place to entertain the visitors such as sky divers, singers, dog shows and line dancers. All of the stalls were tended to by purely volunteers from the community. Rotary Club, Lions and Round Table are congratulated for donating their skills to the home and the fĂȘte.

Ryan Coskey from Rotary Club suggests , “We provide events like this with management skills that are in great need, for instance counting the cash received from the stalls.”

Alongside the volunteers Linden Police, ADT and Securitas were thanked for the constant presence in controlling the crowds lining up outside the jumble sale. The fĂȘte enables the home to be open for about four months. The home itself is able to host up to 60 children at a time. Currently, they have 50 children – starting from four years old. Eddie de Vos , Major for the Salvation Army sector of the area says ,”[Some of the difficulties] are petrol and the logistics of transporting the children from the courts to the home, and everything in between, we rely heavily on the proceeds from the fĂȘte and from financial donations to keep the home afloat.

“Firlands Children’s Home philosophy is to aid the unification of families with children that come from all sorts of backgrounds.
