Food, wine and good company at the kitchen

NORTHGATE – Wine tasting at Mike’s Kitchen a scrumptious affair.

Lovers of wine and food were spoiled for choice at Mike’s Kitchen on 26 June, as the restaurant held a wine-tasting evening for the launch of Balance Wines.

The wines, which originate from Worcester in the Eastern Cape, were paired with different foods with the intention of enhancing the flavour of both the wines and the dishes served with them.

The sweet rosé wine, for instance, was paired with a seafood dish, and the red merlot was combined with a delicious beef carpaccio.

“The idea behind the evening is to promote awareness among Randburg families of the restaurant,” said Tambu Ndoro, who recently took over management of the restaurant along with her mother, Gloria. “Mike’s Kitchen has always been a family brand, and we want families to come and enjoy the wholesome atmosphere we have to offer here.”

Ndoro continued to explain that in line with the restoration of the mall, they thought it would be so appealing to now introduce food and wine pairing.

“Food and wine are part of our culture… it’s part of our lifestyles, especially here in the Northgate area. Our foods are inspired by traditional Mike’s Kitchen recipes that have been South African favourites for almost 30 years now.”

The manageress aims to bring family time back to the restaurant, and build solid friendships with their patrons and their families who are invited to come and enjoy the foods and wines on offer.
