New Douglasdale executive elected

The committee being led by Lizzy Mabena for a second term is keen to have a positive impact and support the police while also holding them accountable in their oversight work.

Following the successful elections of the four sectors within the Douglasdale precinct, the executive committee for the body has also been elected into office.

Held at the Indaba Hotel, members from the four sector committees were on hand to vote for nominated candidates. Twenty nomination forms were completed with two proxy votes submitted for the proceedings.

Thabo Thipe from the Gauteng Department of Community Safety and Douglasdale station commander Brigadier Veeshani Arikum formally oversaw the elections with Ward 94 councillor David Foley in attendance to witness.

  • Deputy chairperson: Reza Bardien
  • Secretary: Samantha Pittendrigh
  • Deputy secretary: Josephine Mohideen
  • Treasurer: André Lingenfelder
  • Public relations: Freda Boiles
  • Patrol co-ordinator: Emile Barnard.

“Let us be united in our quest to improve security and protect the areas we live and work in. Working together with the police and holding them to account are central to our work in the CPF.”

Arikum said, “Congratulations to the new committee and over the next five years we can achieve much. The biggest problem area we have is Sector 2 which has 45% of the overall crime happening for all four sectors and unfortunately requires 80% of police resources to manage. But we will work together and turn this around.”

Thipe will hold an induction session for all the executive and 4 sector committees. “As a department (Community Safety) we are grateful to all stations and their communities who work together to increase efforts to fight negative elements in society. I am sure the new CPF will be refreshed following the elections and I look forward to working with you.”
