Celebrate Spring Day with a swim: Joburg’s public pools open September 1st

Welcome the new season with a splash at Region B's public pools, set to open on Spring Day.

The City of Johannesburg has announced the start of the 2024/2025 public swimming season, with 28 pools set to open their doors on September 1.

In total, 19 pools are scheduled to open gradually as the season progresses.

The swimming season will run until the end of March 2025, allowing ample time for everyone to make the most of these facilities.

Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Community Development, councillor Kabelo Gwamanda, and his team will conduct oversight visits to each public swimming pool as their opening will be staggered across the City.

These visits are part of the city’s commitment to ensuring the community has access to safe and well-maintained recreational facilities.

“The safety of our residents is a top priority. Through these oversight visits, we aim to expedite the opening of pools while ensuring they are in excellent condition,” said Gwamanda. “We recognise the importance of these facilities, particularly as the warmer months approach.”

Swimming pools will be open from Tuesday to Friday, 10:00 to 18:00, and on weekends from 09:00 to 17:00. During public holidays and Mondays during school holidays, pools will be open from 09:00 to 17:00 and closed on normal Mondays.

Entry fees start from R6 for children and R20 for adults. More details on pricing and pool locations are available on the City of Johannesburg’s official website.

Here’s a list of pools that will be open in Region B:

Residents are invited to come and enjoy swimming and water aerobics and learn essential water safety skills. To ensure a safe environment, pushing, running, orca pipes, and glass items are prohibited in the pool and deck areas. Alcohol and narcotics are also strictly forbidden.

The city will continue to update the community on pool opening schedules.
