Grade 5 hero rescues poisoned dog with help from Blue Bush Animal Clinic

Kenneth Assumane, a Grade 5 student from Kya Sand, heroically saved his poisoned dog, Litah, by rushing him to Blue Bush Animal Clinic for urgent treatment.

In the quiet community of Kya Sand, Grade 5 learner Kenneth Assumane and his younger sister, Diana, became local heroes after their brave efforts to save their dog, Litah, who had been poisoned. The bond between the siblings and their beloved pet was undeniable, and their swift actions led to a heartwarming rescue that touched the hearts of many.

It all started when Kenneth and Diana noticed Litah showing signs of distress. Upon realising that their furry friend had been poisoned, they acted quickly. With determination and care, Kenneth placed Litah in a box and, together with Diana, rushed him to Blue Bush Animal Clinic for emergency treatment.

Kenneth recounted what was going through his mind during the situation. “ I was thinking what would God do if I didn’t help him. I was worried because this was how my first dog died.”

The dedicated team at Blue Bush Animal Clinic immediately sprang into action, working tirelessly to stabilise Litah. The clinic’s staff, known for their compassionate care, was deeply moved by Kenneth’s love and devotion to his dog, despite the difficult circumstances his family faces. Litah, who had already been neutered and vaccinated, was now fighting for his life after ingesting poison.

“Little Litah was carried to us in a box this evening by a very caring little boy,” the clinic shared. “Despite his owner’s circumstances, Litah has been well cared for. Tonight, he is fighting for his life after having been poisoned. We are so grateful to everyone who donates to our rescue fund, as it allows us to take on cases like Litah’s every day.”

Through the generosity of the local community and the support from donations, Kenneth’s fears of losing his best friend were eased. Thanks to the efforts of Blue Bush Animal Clinic and the support of many kind-hearted individuals, Litah made it through the first critical night. When Kenneth, Diana, and their friend were reunited with Litah the next afternoon, the joy was unmistakable. Their faces lit up with pure excitement, and Litah was showered with the love and hugs he so deserved.

Megan Couchman, a prominent figure in the Kya Sand community said, “I have been involved in the Kya Sand community for eight years now. I know Kenneth and Diana and I know their mom. I have worked with her for a while, and when I saw them there I knew they were doing their absolute best to help.
“The world just needs more kindness, so if I could just help by taking them home or help them rally friends to help pay the bills so they don’t have to worry, then it’s my little bit of kindness that I am putting into the world.”

Kenneth, deeply touched by the generosity of those helping to pay for Litah’s treatment, asked to record a video to thank everyone. His relief was palpable, though the fight wasn’t over yet. The poison had severely affected Litah’s muscles, and while there is hope for a full recovery, it is uncertain whether the damage will be permanent or if Litah’s condition will improve as the poison continues to leave his system.

The Blue Bush Animal Clinic continues to monitor Litah closely, providing him with the care and attention needed to recover. Kenneth, Diana, and the entire community remain hopeful that Litah will fully heal and return to his playful self soon.

For those who wish to contribute towards Litah’s ongoing treatment, donations can be made to Blue Bush Animal Clinic’s rescue fund. Every bit helps to not only support Litah but also to provide care for other pets from Kya Sand facing similar challenges.

As Kenneth’s story reminds us, love, loyalty, and community can make a world of difference even in the most difficult times.
