Repairs complete in Ferndale after five days without water

According to Johannesburg Water, residents should have water this afternoon [August 22].

Johannesburg Water has confirmed that repairs to a 600mm steel pipe that burst at the Corner of Republic Road and Malibongwe Drive are finally complete.

The pipe burst on August 19 which means affected residents did not have water for five days.

Joburg Water said it could take several hours to remove air from the pipelines in the reticulation due to the huge area that had to be isolated. “Water supply should stabilise late this afternoon [ August 22].”

Affected areas include Ferndale, parts of Windsor, Strijdom Park, Kensington B, parts of Randburg, parts of Bryanston, Moret, and parts of Blairgowrie and Bordeaux.

“Areas still experiencing challenges with their supply will be provided with alternative water,” said Johannesburg Water.

Ward 104 councillor Emi Koekemoer has confirmed that they are already getting reports of water returning at low pressures. ” It will take time for the system to fill but it looks positive,” she said.
