Blairgowrie Primary School’s Mandela Day saw students and parents donate supplies, fostering kindness and community, with donations benefiting various charities, including One Small Act of Kindness.

2. Hippo attacks woman in Kruger National Park

A woman is in hospital after being mauled by a hippo bull in one of the largest game reserves in Africa.

The hippo bull charged and attacked a group of researchers, led by Dr Freek Venter. It eventually got hold of Rinza, Venter’s wife, and badly mauled her. The incident happened on July 25.

3. 10 Kaapsehoop wild horses perish in runaway blazes

At least 10 Kaapsehoop wild horses were killed as a result of the recent wildfires, six of which had to be euthanised due to severe burn wounds.

These fires swept across the Lowveld, destroying large tracts of land. Kaapsehoop and surrounds were one of at least 12 areas that fell victim, along with, among others, parts of Bushbuckridge, White River, Mbombela, Barberton, Lydenburg, Sabie, eManzana, and Machadodorp, in what is deemed to be some of the worst blazes the region has ever experienced.
