Health Haven Event Promotes Wellness in Ferndale
The Shincheonji Volunteers' event, Health Haven: Embracing Wellness Together, attracted residents of Randburg for a morning of health education, community service, and blood donation at the Hope ZA Church.
The Shincheonji Volunteers hosted the Health Haven: Embracing Wellness Together event at Hope ZA Church in Ferndale.
The event aimed to promote health and well-being within the community. Key activities included a blood donation drive in collaboration with the South African National Blood Service (SANBS), health talks, and the donation of sanitary towels to support menstrual health.
The event was attended by special guests from the Office of the MEC and MMC of Health, the Randburg ward councillor, and representatives from the beneficiary organisation.
The first floor of the venue was bustling with SANBS nurses assisting attendees with registration and medical interviews before they donated blood.
On the second floor, MC Shaune Maphoroma opened the talks with a short prayer. Charlotte Joja, a psychologist from Wits, discussed mental health. She emphasised that emotions are neither good nor bad; they are simply a normal part of the human experience.
After a short break, Dr Monanabela captivated the audience with an interactive quiz before starting a discussion on physical health, focusing specifically on the influenza virus.
He spoke about the different kinds of influenza viruses and all the common myths that surround them. The doctor also shared the differences between being sick and having an illness or disease.
Khulisani Masuku, a representative from SANBS, offered words of encouragement to potential blood donors, saying, “you can deposit today, but you never know when you’ll need a withdrawal.”
The event concluded with a speech by Tshilidzi Ntangeni from the MEC Office of Health. She spoke about the many current and upcoming activities of faith-based organisations in the region.
The Health Haven event was a significant initiative that successfully brought together community members to focus on their health and well-being, encouraging them to donate blood and engage in health education.
