EFF helps a family in Itsoseng after their shack is ravaged by fire.

Mother pleads for any kind of help after she lost almost all her belongings because of the fire.

Esther Dimakatso Simon, a mother of four, says her shack caught fire at around 04:35 on June 22 while the family was sleeping.

“The fire started from the door, but we were able to escape before it spread to other parts,” said Simon.

Fire destroys a wardrobe of a family of six in Itsoseng.

The fire is suspected to have been started by illegal connections because they did not light a candle or plug in anything at that moment. “Everyone was inside the house.
“I was in the shack with my husband along with another little one, while the other three children were in the other room.”

Luckily, no one was hurt since they were able to escape and try to put out the fire.
“The fire started to spread after we got outside,” she continued.

Fire destroys couches, clothes, blankets, and a cupboard for clothes.

The mother of four mentioned the things she lost. “My blankets, couches, school uniforms, books,
microwave, stove, bed, television, laptop, printer, food, and the cupboard for clothing are all gone,” she sighed. However, neighbours arrived in great numbers with buckets of water and managed to put out the fire.

The next day, Simon approached members of Gijima Tsotsi Community Protection and asked for assistance. She mentioned that they gave her zinc sheets and they managed to build to rebuild the burned shack from scratch with the support of other residents.

A family of six was left devasted after a fire burned down their shack.

The EFF Ward 100 stepped forward to assist the family by giving blankets, shoes, clothing, food packs, and kitchen supplies. “We did that because we had previously assisted many residents who were in a similar situation.” Even though the donations were insufficient to replace everything lost, we believe they would help people continue their normal lives,” said Siba Mxinwa, the chairperson of the local party.

“We were very touched by this incident,” Mxinwa said, “and we are pleased to have eased the impact of the fire.”

Simon said that they would be glad for any assistance, as it would make a huge difference to them. Those interested in helping can reach her on 072 692 5681.
