Northriding College celebrates 10 years

Northriding College opened in 2013, celebrated a decade, and will have its first matric class in 2024

Northriding College celebrated 10 years since opening its doors for the first time in 2013 and awarded their long-serving staff members.

Parents and visitors were kept entertained by the performances from the preschool to the high school learners.

The high school choir blessed the stage with beautiful melodies and prayers; preschoolers danced to their theme song, and a very loud war-cry came from the primary school learners.

Head of school Joanne Quick said that after 10 years, they needed to dedicate a day to celebrate the growth that they have achieved.

“In the last three years, we have had exponential growth, with interest of parents and learners in the community. But we also celebrate just what the infrastructure has done; what we have invested in the property to improve education for the learners in the area.

“The college started with one class each of Grade 1s and Rs, using Wendy houses as classrooms. It has grown to have 950 learners and close to 100 staff members.”

Quick indicated that it took them three years to build 12 classrooms.

“In 2018, Curro Holdings acquired us and by that stage, we had built another 12 classrooms, sports fields and opened up a digital high school.”

She added that as the school continues to grow, they will keep the numbers at a level where they can still enjoy what they stand for; protect the school ‘s culture, while still providing the best education.

The school acknowledged their longstanding learner, Bokang Mabetha, who is currently in Grade 8, and who joined the college at six months old.

Bokang said he has a lot of good memories of the school. “It’s been a good time, and I have met really wonderful people and made friends. I am happy with how the school is growing and the direction it’s taking.”

Quick added that for the next five years, they are focusing on increasing and improving the academics within the school.
