Metrobuses speed and drive recklessly in Sharonlea

Residents group has reported multiple incidents of reckless driving by Metrobus drivers in Sharonlea.

Video footage showing a Metrobus speeding, veering into the wrong lane and causing an oncoming car to swerve in order to avoid a collision, is being investigated by its parent company.

Multiple cameras in Sharonlea captured the incident on Ebbehout Street on the morning of February 15 and also showed that the bus driver failed to stop at two stop streets.

Residents group, Greater Sharonlea Residents Forum reported the matter to Metrobus a week later.

They have yet to receive any response from the entity.

When the forum brought the issue to Randburg Sun the publication contacted Metrobus on March 24.

Marketing communications specialist Goodwill Shivuri replied that same day. “That matter was reported to [the] operations department at head office. We had challenges locating the depot the bus driver belongs to,” he said.

“The matter was thoroughly investigated by the relevant depot, in this case, Milpark.”

He said he will find out what the outcome of the investigation was and report back.

No further comment was received at the time of going to print.

The questions Randburg Sun sent to him asked:

  • Why the residents’ forum is still waiting for a reply a month later?
  • What action can be expected?
  • How can people report bad driving?

All of the questions went unanswered.

“It is unacceptable that we are still waiting for a reply after more than a month, while the newspapers get such a quick response from these guys,” says forum chairperson JC Wouters.

“We have sent multiple reports of buses speeding within the Sharonlea area and have received no feedback or response.”
