Randburg police celebrate armed robbery conviction

Spokesperson of the Randburg Police Station, Captain Maja Makgowanyana, shares that armed robber, Lebohang Skopo, was recently found guilty and received his sentence of 10 years in prison.

An armed robber who targeted two cyclists was recently found guilty at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court and received a 10-year sentence.

According to the spokesperson of the Randburg Police Station, Captain Maja Makgowanyana, in December 2019, Lebohang Skopo and his accomplice approached two cyclists with a firearm and a knife demanding that they hand over their personal belongings.

One of the victims shot Skopo while he was attempting to flee with the stolen items. Skopo was subsequently arrested. The second suspect successfully escaped after the ordeal.

During the investigation period conducted by detective sergeant Michael Makhopa, the evidence which was presented in court resulted in the accused being found guilty.

“The accused was sentenced to ten years of imprisonment wholly. The matter was suspended for five years on condition that the accused is not convicted of robbery or any of its competent verdicts committed during the period of suspension. He was further declared unfit to possess any firearms,” said Makgowanyana.

Station Commander of the Randburg Police Station, Brigadier Michelle Jones congratulated and praised her team for all of their efforts.
