Sho Majodzi tells Blairgowrie Primary School learners they are stars
Rapper, auther and poet who wowed audiences in Europe graces local school to encourage learners to believe in themselves.
“You are stars, your parents are stars and your teachers are stars.”
That was the message presented to children during Sho Majodzi’s visit to Blairgowrie Primary School.
This is about staying true to oneself and not conforming to the beliefs of others just because they expect you to.
The rapper, singer, author, actress, and poet, whose real name is Maya Wegerif, chatted to the older learners in the school hall before they filed out to make room for the school’s youngest learners.
For them, Majodzi sat down on stage and read her book, ShoMa and the Stars, as it was World Read Aloud Day.
The children’s book is a tribute to the author’s late sister, Nyeleti Mayane, who died in a car crash in 2019.
It details how, after losing her sister Nyeleti, ShoMa and her family reconnected in their grief and appreciated their differences more than ever before.
Questions were asked about the book afterward, and learners who answered correctly were rewarded with small bags of other children’s books.
After each of the two sessions, the John Cena hitmaker sang and danced with learners to the song that made her an international star and led to her successful performances in Germany.
The school’s marketing and communications manager, Ashleigh Barnard-McNaughton thanked Sho Majodzi for her fun and impactful visit.
