47-year-old man arrested for smash and grabs in Strijdom Park

Acting station commander applauds the work of community members in apprehending a suspect after witnessing smash and grab.

A 47-year-old suspect is to appear briefly in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court to face charges of theft out of motor vehicle relating to smash and grabs in Strijdom Park.

Randburg PoliceStation spokesperson Captain Makgowanyana Maja said at about 07:00 on October 5, the suspect allegedly smashed the windows of a stationary vehicle at a red traffic light.

“The suspect grabbed the victim’s cellphone which was on the passenger seat and he ran away with the cellphone,” Maja said.

“The motorists who were behind the victim witnessed what had happened and they gave chase. They managed to apprehend the suspect. They called the police and the suspect was handed over to them.”

Acting Station Commander Colonel Solomon Mudau praised the members of the community for their bravery in apprehending the suspect.

“This is the proof that working together we can achieve more and root out evils among our communities” he said.

He further encouraged others to join hands in fighting crime in order to make everyone feel and be save in the country.
