Randburg police arrest two men for separate rape incidents over weekend

Acting station commander commends officers for quick preliminary investigations that led to the arrests.

Randburg police arrested two rape suspects for separate incidents, over the past weekend.

Spokesperson, Captain Makgowanyana Maja explained that in the first incident, at 20:00 on September 25, the victim alleged she was lured outside of a liquor shop on Selkirk Avenue, Randburg CBD, where a man forced himself on her and raped her.

“In view of the above-mentioned incident, we are appealing to our ladies to go out in groups with friends they can trust when they are going out for drinks,” Maja said.

“Always be aware of strangers. Do not leave your drinks unattended to avoid it from being spiked.”

In a different case, it was alleged the victim woke up and was surprised when she felt someone raping her.

“She realised that she was covered with a blanket by the suspect. She managed to overpower him and pushed him away from her.”

The matter was reported to the police and the suspect was arrested.

Both suspects are expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court soon.

Acting Station Commander Colonel Solomon Mudau commended members for their quick preliminary investigations which led to the arrests of two suspects.
