Police recover 650 mandrax tablets in Strijdom Park bust

The drugs were recovered following information received by the community.

Police arrested two men and a woman, and confiscated about 650 mandrax tablets from a stolen car they were driving, during an incident in Strijdom Park.

Randburg police spokesperson Makgowanyana Maja said the suspects aged between 34 and 36 were pulled over by police on the evening of September 12.

The vehicle the suspects were driving was also found to be stolen.

“It is alleged that at about 19:00, members of the Randburg Crime Prevention Unit received information regarding a vehicle transporting drugs to Randburg,” Maja explained.

“The members spotted the vehicle fitting the description provided and intercepted the vehicle with two occupants. It was stopped and the occupants were searched. Approximately 650 mandrax tablets were found in their possession.”

Further investigation revealed the vehicle was stolen from its owner during a robbery.

About 650 mandrax tablets were recovered in the stolen car.

The three were arrested.

Randburg Police Station Commander Brigadier Michelle Jones praised the members for their response and the community for providing the information that led to the arrests.

She further urged the community to continue providing information and make use of the MySaps app on their smartphones.

The suspects will appear in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court soon, also facing charges of being in possession of a stolen vehicle.
