New JMPD officers for Region B

Region B is one of two regions who have newly deployed JMPD officers who are ready to hit the ground running.

An additional 100 metro police officers have been deployed in Region B.

This came after MMC for Public Safety David Tembe led an event recently that saw the collective deployment of 240 metro police officers in Regions B and D.

Tembe believes the deployment of these additional 100 officers to Region B, which now brings the total number of officers to 160 within the region, will go a long way in the prevention and reduction of crime. Officers are said to be kitted with firearms, pepper sprays, handcuffs and most importantly, infrastructure numbers, to enable them to write citations.

“Through Operation Buya Mthetho, we intend to intensify operations and create a sense of safety and security in communities. These officers will continue the war on crime by enforcing by-laws, crime prevention and traffic management,” said Tembe.

Other regions can also expect deployment of officers in the next coming weeks, as a show of force against crime.

According to the spokesperson for the JMPD, Xolani Fihla, this deployment was ‘heeding the call from residents, councillors and the business community, to intensify operations and create a sense of safety and security in communities’.

He explained these officers are not necessarily new, as they were deployed in the inner city earlier this year, as a measure to fight against crime and lawlessness, “They did an exceptional job and they will be bringing that experience to Region B.”
This job will see officers work on four-day shifts.
