Northriding College learners have a sleepout

The learners raised funds for a charity of their choice during the event.

Learners at Northriding College forsook all luxuries as they engaged in a sleepout.

“The Grade 7 Sleepout will become a new tradition in our school, and it was inspired by the CEO Sleepout,” explained the school’s marketer, Christine Delport.

The learners have soup made by the school’s staff.

“For this we had a number of our Grade 7 learners pledge to make it through the night on Friday, August 12 without any devices, luxuries or matrasses. They were fed soup that the staff made ourselves, and were supplied with [cardboard] boxes to made a comfortable sleeping place for the night. There was a fire outside and they could use that for additional heat.”

Once a learner pledged, they were given a backing form to try raise funds for a charity that they themselves selected as the Grade 7 group.

This year they chose Miracle Mission, a children’s home in Kensington B.

Mvandaba, Ngcali makes his own shelter out of boxes for the sleepout.

At 06:30 the Saturday morning, they were awarded with a hot chocolate and a certificate for making it.

All leftover soup was poured into disposable cups and given to people standing at robots.
