Suspects are arrested for stealing items in Strijdom Park and Bryanston

Police also warn of theft of headlights as crime trend presents itself.

Three men aged between 40 and 47 are expected to appear briefly in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing a spare wheel from a vehicle.

Randburg Police Station spokesperson Captain Makgowanyana Maja said they are charged with being in possession of stolen property.

“It is alleged that on August 19 at 12:00, crime prevention members received information about the suspects who were in the process of stealing a spare wheel from a vehicle,” he said.

“Upon their arrival at the scene, they found that the suspects had left. They searched around the area whereby the vehicle was spotted while the suspects were still busy stealing another spare wheel from another vehicle, corner of CR Swart Drive and Gerhardus Street in Strijom Park.”

The suspects were caught.

Meanwhile another two suspects were arrested in Bryanston for stealing gas cylinders, Maja added.

“[They] were caught while misrepresenting [a] home affairs official in applying for identification cards.”

Station Commander Brigadier Michelle Jones applauded the members for their response and arresting the perpetrators.

She further encouraged the public to report any suspicions activities in their area.

Theft of headlights

“While the police are acting on information provided by the public and arresting the perpetrators, we [are] also appealing that the drivers of Polos and Golfs be vigilant when parking their cars as their headlights are being stolen,” Maja added.

“Please park your vehicle where it is visible and in sight of a lot of movement to distract potential criminals.”
