Curro Aurora Sundowner learner is awarded scholarship to the US

The Grade 10 learner aims to make the most of this opportunity and learn all she can.

A local learner has received a scholarship to study in the United States.

Grade 10 learner Pooja Chunnilall of Curro Aurora in Sundowner is described as an all-rounder by her school, as she participates in many activities at school while aiming high with her academic performance.

She has been awarded an AFS Intercultural Program scholarship for 10 months in Maryland and will attend a local school with her host family’s children.

She said when she joined Curro Aurora in 2017 she enjoyed the new environment and making new friends.

“I think that is what sparked my interest in a study-abroad or exchange programme,” she said.

“Through some research, I found that AFS is an organisation that provides intercultural study-abroad programmes.”

She said she loved to learn new things and travel.

“I believe there’s so much to learn through experience and sharing knowledge and culture with others and this programme opens a door for so much learning that cannot be found in books. I want to make sure that I learn as much as possible, share a piece of South Africa with the US and the other exchange students from other parts of the world, and leave a positive mark on my parents, teachers, school, and country.”
