New street furniture coming to Randburg CBD

Residents can write in about the new proposed bins, bollards and light poles.

The bins, bollards and light poles of the Randburg CBD Public Environment Upgrade Project will all be finished in a charcoal colour.

These are hoped to be installed with the rest of the pedestrian crossings, walkways, trees and plants, and other features by October next year, though residents at a recent public meeting urged architects and landscapers to ensure items like these are easily replaceable in case they are stolen, as they have been at recent upgrade projects throughout Joburg.

Ward 102 councillor David Potter stressed this in particular to the architects, as sometimes creative individuals can be carried away with the aesthetic side of their projects and forget the practical side of them.

As the plan stands, however, the light poles and light fittings will be made of mild steel, and be 5m high and 19.3cm in diameter.

The bollards will be flat-topped but round in design and painted steel, 90cm high and 15cm in diameter.

Bins will be made of polymer concrete and will be 77cm high, 50cm wide and 50cm long.

Residents can make submissions to the project by emailing l.ngcosini@gmail.com or lqangule@jda.org.za
