Knights Prep learners receive a special visit

Local school receives a special long-awaited visit from the travelling bookshop.

Knights Preparatory School honoured their learners with a two-day visit from the Travelling Bookshop on July 6 and 7.

The school welcomed parents to come by and take a look at their young ‘Knights’ and the wonderful books that were on display. The Travelling Bookshop visits the school twice a year. So a number of learners filled the school hall to see what books the Travelling Bookshop had in store this time around.

Personal assistant to the principal of Knights Preparatory School Wendy Richardson mentioned that the Travelling Bookshop had been visiting Knights once a term for quite a number of years. “They offer great value for money and have a fabulous collection of really good books at reasonable prices.” She added that they gave back a percentage of their proceeds to the school which helped grow the school’s library.

“As Dr Seuss said, ‘The more that you read, the more that you’ll know…the more that you learn, the more places you’ll go!’ At Knights we cultivate a love for reading and we encourage our parents to spend quality time reading with their children.”

She shared that the Travelling Bookshop assisted with absorbing that goal in the minds of their learners.

With the diverse and exciting selection of books on display, some of the learners struggled to make final decisions about the books they wanted to buy.

Zoe Vurgarellis and Kelsey Wagner, both in Grade 5, shared that they both enjoyed coming to see what interesting, new books were available whenever the Travelling Bookshop made a stop at their school.

Chioma Anarakou in Grade 2 excitedly said, “I love reading, that’s why I came to see what books they had here.”

Akim Mmachacha in Grade 5 joyfully added, “I enjoy coming to see the different books because there are so many great options to choose from.”

The learners from Knights Preparatory loved the visit from the Travelling Bookshop and are anticipating its return.
