Northriding resident encourages community to donate teddy bears

A North Riding resident is passionate about donating teddy bears and putting a smile on little ones' faces.

Anna-Maria Lemmerer (74) from North Riding has been gathering and donating teddy bears to children in orphanages and children’s homes during Christmas since December 2019.

Lemmerer’s passion for what she does has seen her donating teddy bears not only in Johannesburg but to homes in Botswana. She has delivered more than 490 teddy bears to 19 children’s homes, 16 orphanages, and three children who had been victims of abuse.

Lemmerer sells plants and uses that money to purchase teddy bears from the Randburg SPCA. She has sold almost 750 plants.
“I get calls from the children’s homes or orphanages that I donate to and they always tell me that the children will run around on the playground hugging the teddy bears in their arms and then fall asleep still hugging the teddy bear,” said Lemmerer.

She has received letters of acknowledgement for her generosity from various organisations such as the Acres of Love, St Mary’s Children’s Home and The Angels Home.

She appealed to the community to kindly donate more used teddy bears that would be cleaned and sanitised before delivery.
