Local businesses, artisans, food stands, entrepreneurs, and kid-friendly and pet-friendly stores, were all well hosted at ‘The Local Market’.
Blairgowrie Primary School held this fun, community market as a fundraising initiative on June 11.
People came to the market in numbers. With the diversity of stands present, it was hard to decide where to start.
Dorothy Avvakoumides, the owner of ‘Syrinus Store’, said the meaning behind the store’s name was the ‘first step of 1 000 to success’. Her antique jewellery store sells distinctive crystals and other gems as well as books about the various crystals and gems. Avvakoumides added that humans related to the stars as our bodies held the same number of elements of the universe.
The talented craftsman, Tffy Zvomuya from Wilber Beads, made aesthetic, home and art figures. “I have been doing this for 14 years,” he said.
He shared it angered him when international animal poachers came to our country to harm wildlife, only to stuff the bodies and put them on display. He wished that those people would rather invest in his art pieces and put those up for display.
Dylan Lee from Bacon Jam shared that the store was started by well-known comedian and home cook, Chris Forrest. Many mentioned the name of the food sounded funny to them. Forrest responded, “It’s not something you listen to, it’s something you eat.”
Throughout the day, people danced to the music played by the DJ, indulged in mouth-watering food sold and explored the different stands and walked away either having purchased something or having learnt something they never knew before.
