Alchemy in the mix at Arnold Classic

The tang soo do martial artists will branch out to compete in a variety of Korean martial arts.

Members of Alchemy Dojang are excited for the return of the Arnold Classic Africa after a two-year break.

Instead of the Sandton Convention Centre, this year’s event will be held in a ‘tent city’ at Ruimsig Stadium from June 3 to 5.

The martial artists from Cresta will compete in various styles, though they are most known for tang soo do and will no doubt dominate in Korean martial arts.

“This will be good preparation for international events and good exposure for our students,” said head instructor, seventh dan master Gregory Hart.

“They will be seeing different styles and types of fighting from a much larger pool of competitors than you normally see at tournaments. We are also hoping for good results but the main thing is the exposure.”

The Arnold Classic Africa is a sports event launched by Austrian-American actor and former bodybuilder Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2016.

It celebrates a host of different sporting codes and art.
