Friends of Olivedale Library glad to be back

After being closed for three months, Olivedale Library will soon see a host of new books as the volunteer group gives it their all.

The Friends of Olivedale Library (Fools) members are glad to welcome the community back.

The library was closed for three months from March, due to an apparent error from the City’s billing department.

The library’s water was shut off erroneously, and its doors closed. But within a week of Randburg Sun and Ward 101 councillor Ralf Bittkau getting involved, the library was reopened.

“We donate a lot of books to schools and charities so it was difficult doing that while the library was closed,” said Fools secretary, Eleanor Woodman.

“Now we are glad to be open at the library again and we have loads of books to sort through.”

The group’s chairperson, Stan Simcox, said donations, book sales and membership fees from the 400 members of Fools, have allowed them to raise R31 000, which they will spend on new books for libraries in the area.

“We get a lot of new, modern books bought by Fools that are not available at other libraries without ‘friends’ groups like us,” he said.
