Boys shave two-year-old hair for Cansa

RANDPARK RIDGE – The Cubs also raised R940 at their sprayathon for the Cancer Association of South Africa.

Two local Scout Cubs grew their hair for two years and then shaved it for a good cause.

Cale Rouquette (10) and his best friend Liam shaved their hair at a recent Bushhill Cubs meeting to donate to the Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) for children who need wigs.

The Cubs then had a sprayathon at the end of the meeting and raised R940 for the association.

This was the third time Cale has grown his hair and donated it at a Cansa shavathon. He donated his hair when he was six and again at eight years old.

“I would love to see many people supporting the Shavathon and sprayathon,” he said, referring to the Randpark Ridge Scouts shavathon planned at Randridge Mall on March 26, where he will volunteer

“I feel rewarded when I donate my hair. I love Star Wars and the jedi heroes have long hair. So I kept a small plait so I could look like a jedi.”

Cale’s family and support network have set up the #inspiredbyCaleR initiative for those who decided to donate or spray because of him.

His grandmother in Gqeberha will be donating her hair too.

The hashtag can be used on Facebook and Instagram, and community members can follow Cale to stay updated on his ventures.
