Mayoral candidate and ward councillors visit Bromhof in light of electricity issues

BROMHOF – DA mayoral candidate and ward councillors meet with residents in Bromhof, Boskruin.

Residents met with DA mayoral candidate for Joburg, Dr Mpho Phalatse to discuss electricity issues in Bromhof, Boskruin and surrounds, during a campaign event on October 23.

Residents had been told that national DA leader John Steenhuisen would join the three site meetings but he cancelled on the day.

Ward 101 has been battling recurring power outages, which candidate councillor Ralf Bittkau said he and his team had been fighting to resolve.

Chief among Bittkau’s efforts was organising to secure a substation that had been repeatedly vandalised, and form a partnership with a local security company to monitor the substation.

Phalatse said efforts like this would get greater traction if her party was voted in and gained power at municipal level.

“We need you to vote us in and vote us in in numbers so we can have the power to fix things in the city,” she said.

“At the moment there is an infrastructure backlog and the ANC does not do anything. We hope to stabilise the city if we are voted in.”

The DA’s outgoing ward 101 councillor Dalu Cele gave his endorsement to Phalatse and Bittkau at the site meetings.

Also in attendance were DA Joburg caucus leader Leah Knott and chief whip Wendy Alexander, among other ward councillors and candidates.
