Kings College brings Asem to life

DOUGLASDALE – Best costume award shared by two learners.

The matric learners of King’s College and Preparatory School were thrilled to hit the stage and walk away with accolades from the 2021 PIT Produksie.

The production requires Grade 12 learners to take a deep dive into their prescribed Afrikaans coursebook Asem by Jan Vermeulen and eight poems included in their course work. As part of the production, a live theatrical performance by learners brings the novel and related poems to life with movement, acting and narrating.

Each year, the Grade 12 learners enjoy an afternoon to participate in the festivities by dressing up as a character from the novel. This year the college was excited to present two winners for the best costume awards – Zia Whittal dressed as Jona the dog, and Jessie Cheng dressed as Butcher.

The school was also pleased to see five of their learners dressing as the character Stef from the novel who they believed were amazing, labelling them a close second for the best costume award.
