More people eligible for Covid-19 vaccines

JOBURG – Region B vaccinations sites untouched by #SAunrest taking place in the last week.

The time for members of the public between the ages of 35 and 49 to register and receive their Covid-19 vaccine has finally arrived.

From July 15, these people were eligible to register on the Electronic Vaccination System and will therefore be able to walk in to any vaccination site, whether private or municipal, to receive their Pfizer jab. The residents of Region B will be able to access three City of Johannesburg vaccination sites – Berario Recreational Centre, Danie Van Zyl Recreational Hall and Parkhurst Recreational Centre. Additionally, these sites will also be able to administer a second jab to those who have already received their first. People over 50 years can walk in to any vaccine site with or without appointments.

Fortunately, these sites were able to continue their work during the unrest that gripped Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal recently. Several sites across the Soweto region had to halt their vaccination activities but they were back on board this week as the unrest calmed down. Members of the public who have received their first Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine shot are reminded that they will need to get their second shot 42 days after the first. The sites are open Monday to Friday between 07:30 and 15:00. Sites also hold a limited amount of jabs so there is the possibility of them running out through the course of the day.

As of July 18, 1 688 514 people have been fully vaccinated while 3 406 499 people received their first dose according to the national health department. In Gauteng, 820 951 people have received their first Pfizer dose, 184 753 have received their second and final shot, and 219 044 people have received the Johnson & Johnson jab in the province. Technology savvy people are urged to assist others with their vaccine registrations.
These can be done through the following platforms:

The department urged all those visiting the vaccination sites for both onsite registration and vaccination, especially senior citizens, to remain vigilant of any criminal activities. Such activities and suspicious activity should be reported to the police as soon as possible.
