Safety tips for cars and motorists

RANDBURG – Motorists given tips to keep their cars and themselves safe.


Police warn motorists to be extra careful when out and on the road.

Randburg Police Station are reminding motorists and car owners that although social activities have reduced due to the new lockdown level, criminals will still try to take advantage. The station put out a warning that the public should be vigilant of their surroundings, where they park their vehicles and keeping items and their vehicle safe. The station shared safety tips to help the public avoid being victims of carjackings, theft out of and theft from motor vehicles and hijackings.

Randburg Police Station motor vehicle-related safety tips:

  • Lock all your valuables such as laptops, cameras and handbags in the boot where it is out of sight
  •  Make sure all your doors and windows are properly locked before walking away from your parked vehicle
  • Double check that the car is locked by trying to open the doors after locking it – car jamming is still a reality
  • Always check around when entering your premise
  •  Keep your doors locked at all times
  •  Never leave the vehicle idling unattended – not even to open your gate
  •  If you know that you will be going home late in the evening, leave a light on in the yard
  •  Don’t give people you don’t know a ride
  •  Do not park your vehicle where no security officers are stationed to guard other vehicles
  •  Do not engage any unknown people when parking your vehicle in any public space
  •  At night, park your vehicle in well-lit areas

Police have also urged members of the public to adhere to the latest rules and regulations which include the prohibition against liquor sales and distribution and the 9pm to 4am curfew. They have also reminded the public to continue wearing masks whenever in public or around people and to practice social distancing protocols – non-compliance is an arrestable offence.
