Alan Toweel boxers shine at the Sandton Convention Centre

LINDEN – Local boxers win three out of three on important night.

Three wins out of three for Alan Toweel’s boxers made it a fantastic night out at the Sandton Convention Centre.

On an evening when the fights were broadcast on SABC, fighters from the boxing gym in Linden stepped up to prove their strength and skill.

Tshifhiwa Munyai retained his SA lightweight title with a ninth round TKO.

This against Khaya Busakwa, who was the Gauteng lightweight champion, and the mandatory challenger for the title.

On the same bill, Rofhiwa Nemushungwa fought eight rounds to win on points against Siboniso Gonya from KwaZulu-Natal.

Toweel’s other protégé, Trevor Nghonyama, also won on points over four rounds in his fight against Isaac Tshesane, from Mpumalanga.

It was Nghonyama’s third win in as many fights.

A fight many were looking forward to, but which was postponed, was between Toweel’s undefeated heavyweight Wilhelm Nebe and Jean Pierre Steenkamp.

It would have been Nebe’s fifth professional fight.

Next up, Bangile Nyangani challenges for the SA Mini Flyweight Title in East London on 13 June.
