One thing that we have learned over the past few weeks of our Randburg Sun and Westpack Lifestyle Hero of the Month campaign, is truly how many heroes there are, all around us.

We have been absolutely inundated with entries and would like to encourage those of you who still have not nominated your local #RandburgHero, to jump on board and celebrate those people in our community who go above and beyond their call of duty to improve the lives of the people around them.

We thought that this week we would share some of the early entries – these are by no means our winners just yet, but we felt that our readers deserved to share in some of the joy that we have experienced so far, in learning all about the people our community members admire.

We have received all sorts of entries about all sorts of different people, and have loved each and every one.
Our community has been truly blessed with a number of people who work tirelessly on a daily basis, often working late into the evenings, seven days a week, to help people they don’t even know personally.

Three of these phenomenal women have already been nominated a number of times – they are Landy Yeatman from People 4 Purpose, Megan Botha from Beanies for Beings and Claire Duvel from Kindness like Confetti. Through their organisations, these women help perhaps hundreds of families in need in our community, with anything from warm meals, clothing, organising job interviews and so on. They truly do uplift our community, and for that, they are certainly all heroes.

Another resident who has received a number of entries is Patrick Kule who launched the Windsor Community Cleaning Association which takes to the streets of Windsor every single week to clean up and preserve the community. Windsor, parts of which had been looking extremely poorly, is beginning to pick up, thanks in large part to the effort of Patrick and his team. He gets community members actively involved, and shows that one person really can make a difference.

On the animal front, Katherine Matthews has been nominated a couple of times for her work with animals in distress. According to the entries, Katherine cares for animals who have been abandoned or lost, or are simply in need of her care. One nomination said, “She has a passion to care for all animals, and is deserving of being nominated as a local hero in recognition of her efforts.”
We certainly do respect people who take the time to care for animals who can’t care for themselves, so a huge thanks to Katherine for the work that she does.
These are but a few of the nominees that have thus far been nominated.

If you would still like to nominate your local #RandburgHero, don’t hesitate. They could win a R1 000 voucher from our wonderful friends at Westpack Lifestyle for their efforts. Remember that no act is too big or too small to be heroic.
