Boskruin woman arrested for suspected human trafficking

BOSKRUIN – Police warn teenagers and parents to be vigilant of human trafficking after an incident on 2 April.

The Honeydew police are warning teenagers and parents to be vigilant of human trafficking after a female suspect was arrested for the crime on 2 April.

Honeydew police spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan said that the father of a 15-year-old girl received a frantic call from a family member informing him that his daughter was in serious danger after an undisclosed incident. “The complainant drove to the last known location of his daughter as told to him by his family member.

This happened to be at a Boskruin property, and when he arrived, he was greeted by a woman who asked what he was doing there,” said Muthan. The father asked the woman at the gate if his daughter was at the property, to which she replied that there were no children at the property at all. “After a brief argument, the woman went back inside the house and a short while later, two young girls emerged from of the house and walked toward the gate.

The complaint said that they looked tired and downtrodden, and before they could reach the gate, they collapsed,” said Muthan. The suspect then threw keys over the wall to allow the father to open the gate to rescue the girls. The father immediately contacted the police, who responded to the scene and arrested the suspect. Muthan said that both victims were treated by paramedics on the scene and were taken to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

The suspect will appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court soon to face charges of kidnapping and human trafficking.
