The Class of 2020 achieved a 100 per cent pass rate, with 98 per cent of candidates being awarded their bachelor degree pass. A total of 587 distinctions were received.
Two students, Jessica James and Rutendo Kawelenga were placed on the Independent Education Board’s list for Outstanding Achievement, meaning that they were placed in the top 5 per cent of learners in six subjects and 80 per cent or more for life orientation.
Rhys du Randt, Lesego Sithole, Tayla Orsmond were placed on the IEB’s list for commendable achievement, meaning they achieved within the top 5 per cent of all learners in five subjects and 80 per cent or more for life orientation.
The following students have achieved a result in the top one per cent of IEB candidates in their subject:

- Danella Oelofse – Afrikaans first additional language
- Tayla Orsmond – English home language
- Lesego Sithole – History, IsiZulu first additional language and physical sciences
- Thomas van Coller – English home language and physical sciences.
Students with seven or more distinctions included Kristi Fourie, Jordan Homann, Jessica James, Thomas van Coller, Gina Altshuler, Gina Breetzke, Nicole Brink, Devon Casey, Chiyedza Chimunda, Njabulo Dlamini, Rhys du Randt, Katerina Gabriel, Makenzie Graham, Rutendo Kawelenga, Michael Keogh, Wanangwa Nyasulu, Tayla Orsmond, Sa’ad Patel, Lesego Sithole, Jordan Telfer, Natasja Troskie, and Marisa Venditti.
Head of the Girls’ College Sally James said that the formidable group of young women navigated 2020 with courage, determination and hope. “We also celebrate the outstanding results of three candidates who achieved summa cum laude, which is an average of 90 per cent and above.”
Head of the Boys’ College David du Toit said that the school is very proud of their boys and congratulate them on their fine results in the face of the significant challenges faced in 2020. “They say that steel is hardened in fire. This is certainly the case for the Class of 2020.
“They were certainly tested in the toughest of conditions and came out of the year stronger, more independent and more committed to eradicating social injustices than many year groups before them. I salute their resilience, determination and unity in this past year.”
The school also wished to celebrate the outstanding efforts of their staff who worked tirelessly to ensure that learning continued in the year and that all learners were able to achieve their very best.
“Their results are the culmination of their schooling journey, in essence, the final piece to balance their significant contributions in culture, community engagement, spirituality, sport, outdoor education and leadership. They are well-balanced young men who are well prepared for the writing of the next chapter of their unique stories,” concluded Du Toit.
