A community’s update on Windsor progress

WINDSOR – Windsor Community Support Services has given an update on the progress of pressing issues in the Windsor area.

Windsor Community Support Services (WCSS) would like to extend a big word of thanks to several City entities for their work in Windsor and encouraged others to help where work in the area is lacking.

“Pikitup has been a great help in the Windsor community as a whole, removing illegal dumping and attending to all requests that the community asks of them,” said WCSS’s community liaison manager Mathabo Bekimbia-Tchoffo.
The WCSS is also praising the work of City Parks for fencing in Knights and Lords Park in Windsor West.

“We are so grateful for this, our community is incredibly happy to see that it will be kept clean and safe at all times. Hopefully, the fence will help to stop the rate of illegal dumping and make the area a safe one for families to enjoy with their children,” she said.

Bekimbia-Tchoffo said that the community wishes for other parks, such as the Princesses and Dukes Parks to undergo the same level of transformation, as well as the rejuvenation of the local public swimming pool.
She also said that the community is calling for greater building environment involvement from the City in the rejuvenation of dilapidated abandoned buildings. “They are harbouring thugs and these buildings truly has become a safe-haven for criminals. Many illegal businesses are operating there, on the sides of the road, street vendors, and such, and we hope that for the safety of all, something can be done about this,” she claimed.

She noted that maintenance on streets filled with potholes is lacking. “As a community, we have given the JRA a list of issues regarding the roads in the area regarding potholes that need to be attended to, replacement of stop signs, as well as concrete slabs on storm water drains. Hopefully, these issues will be attended to soon.”

She also noted several problems with electricity in the area have been attended to by City Power including the repair of streetlights, but many issues seemingly go unattended to. “We have reported the substation on the corner of Alice Street and Countesses Avenue many times, and the door on it is still sitting open. This has contributed to unfavourable characters stealing cables and fuses. There are many other boxes like this in our area, and we hope that City Power can attend to these issues soon.”

Bekimbia-Tchoffo encouraged the members of the Windsor community as a whole to take pride in their suburb, clean up the areas surrounding them, and take ownership of it. She also encouraged the community to report crimes and municipal issues to help transform Windsor into a safe and clean suburb for all.
The Randburg Sun has contacted some of the City entities mentioned in the article for a response on pressing issues mentioned and is awaiting a response.
