Randburg SPCA appeals to community for help

NORTH RIDING – Kennel manager Cynthia Bezuidenhout appeals to community members to help in any way they can.

Randburg SPCA has appealed for help after struggling to cope with the number of stray animals brought in from the start of the festive season.

Since December, the organisation has found and taken in 96 stray cats and 48 have been surrendered by their owners to the animal shelter. In addition, 57 stray dogs have been taken in and 122 dogs were surrendered. This was due to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic which has caused many financial issues for families who were unable to take care of their pets.

Kennel manager at Randburg SPCA, Cynthia Bezuidenhout admitted that the society had struggled to provide for the increased numbers.

“We are short of money to run the SPCA and get things like food,” said Bezuidenhout.

The SPCA based in North Riding prepared a list of items that they needed and appealed to community members to donate to help them to run the animal shelter. The society is also happy to accept cash donations which can be made physically at their premises or deposited into their account. Their banking details can be found on their website.
