KLC endeavours to add a little more kindness

LINDEN – Linden-based non-profit organisation Kindness Like Confetti reflects on the year that was.

Chairperson of Kindness Like Confetti (KLC) Claire Duvel writes:

The absolute desperation and huge increase in need hit us all hard; KLC had no idea how long the epidemic and associated lockdown would last. Covid-19 threw us off guard and stretched our resources to breaking point. Many of our projects were affected and we saw a drastic decline in donations as well as in numbers of volunteers.

Our heroes have been the donors and the volunteers who kept us ticking over and have enabled us to help so many people throughout this year. It’s truly amazing what you can achieve with an incredible team.

The World Prematurity Day baby hampers were a huge success, from the knitters and crocheters who created the most beautiful blankets, beanies, jackets and booties to the donors who supplied the baby toiletries for new mommies in desperate need.

The team also did extremely well with the distribution of grocery hampers to families in the Randburg area who were struggling to make ends meet. This was again only made possible by our incredible donors. We expanded our reach and launched our Pretoria branch, KLC moved operations from our individual homes to awesome premises which has been donated by a generous landlord, and created our website.

We have also seen phenomenal growth of the Pad Princess, our flagship project and the amazing bra donations and distributions through our Project Uplift which seeks to empower women by providing them with underwear. Our Dignity Bag project has grown exponentially and we are now providing bags to seven victim support units around the Johannesburg area. World Homeless Day was recognised by providing a hot meal and toiletries to the ladies in a local shelter.

Groceries are always welcome – January is going to be tough for a lot of people. Food parcels will help them get through. Let’s continue growing from strength to strength, and to reach more people in need of kindness.
