A massive burst on the main water pipe running along Bond Street near Pine Avenue occurred on 8 November, destroying the wall of a nearby home, crushing their vehicles in the process.
Several residents contacted Randburg Sun and posted on various community groups about the incident.
The resulting burst has left residents in the area without water for days on end while the repairs to the infrastructure take place.
“Due to repairs to the water burst, large areas of the suburb had their water turned off. The water tower at Kensington B ran out of supply,” said Ward 104 councillor Mike Wood.
Affected suburbs included Kensington B, Vandia Grove, Strijdom Park, and Beverley Gardens.
“Most areas have been restored, but some areas in the direct vicinity of where the burst occurred are still off as of 10 November.”
Wood added that Joburg Water teams worked tirelessly to contain the burst, and teams were currently working hard to ensure that the infrastructure in the area remained stable.
“Both Ward 102 councillor David Potter and I are doing our level best to ensure that the water is restored, and it is currently in the hands of Joburg Water.”
Joburg Water’s Isaac Dhludhlu said the burst was due to ageing infrastructure.
“The two bursts have been repaired and we know there is a street or complex that still don’t have water. Our team is attending to this isolated incident and we have placed tanks in the interim while still investigating the cause,” added Dhludhlu.
He said affected residents could lodge formal claims with Joburg Water which will be assessed accordingly.
