HONEYDEW – The Honeydew police are celebrating a week of successes after the arrest of 64 suspects for various crimes in the week ending 30 October.

Honeydew police spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan said, “We would like to congratulate our police members for making a large number of arrests in such a short period of time. These arrests are for multiple crimes.”

Some of the 64 arrests include:

  • Dealing in liquor
  • Dealing in drugs
  • Possession of stolen motor vehicles
  • Assault
  • Shoplifting
  • Possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition

Muthan said that the special Echo Squad of officers has been hard at work planning the operations and bringing down the rate of crimes in the area.

“Members of our Echo Squad followed up on information received to arrest numerous suspects in their operations. Recently, one suspect was arrested for possession of a dangerous weapon after an anonymous tip-off. Even though it was an air-gun, it could have potentially been used in an armed robbery to threaten unsuspecting victims.

“All arrested suspects will appear in court once the investigation is complete as many are being linked to other crimes in other areas.”

Muthan wished to inform the community of the following important police station numbers to use in an emergency:

  • Honeydew Police 24-hour operational room 011 801 8613/4/5
  • Operational room cell phone 082 337 1426
  • Relief commander 011 801 8620/1
  • Crime stop 08600 10111.
