Update: Police confirm details of cash in transit robbery
The suspects are said to have fled the scene in two high-end vehicles.
Update 3 November:
Honeydew Police spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan has confirmed details of the cash-in-transit heist that took place near the old municipal nursery in North Riding.
An ADT Fidelity cash-in-transit vehicle had its doors blown open in an alleged bombing after the heist took place.
“The cash-in-transit vehicle’s security officers were collecting cash from a fast food restaurant at Bel Air Shopping Centre.
Two suspects were disguised in full security uniforms and entered the vehicle when its passenger doors were open and one driver was still inside,” said Muthan.
The armed suspects allegedly pushed the one security guard inside the vehicle to the back of the double cab before entering the driver’s cabin and speeding off.
“One suspect drove the cash van to a gravel road off Olivenhout Road, where the cash van was then allegedly bombed,” said Muthan.
The doors at the back of the vehicle were blown open and an undisclosed amount of cash was taken.
The suspects fled the scene in two vehicles, a Porsche and a Volvo.
Muthan said that no injuries were reported and police attended to the scene.
The Honeydew and Douglasdale police are appealing to the public for information on the incident and the whereabouts of the suspects.
