Elderly woman airlifted to hospital after being hit by a car in Olivedale

OLIVEDALE – Medics discovered an elderly woman lying on the road with a serious head injury.

An elderly woman was left critically injured on the afternoon of 1 July when she was struck by a light motor vehicle while walking with her grandchild on Market Street in Olivedale.

ER24 communications officer, Russel Meiring said, “Paramedics arrived on the scene to find other services already in attendance. On closer inspection, medics found an elderly woman lying on the side of the road.

The vehicle that had struck the woman was found parked a short distance away.” He said medics assessed the elderly woman and found she had sustained a serious head injury, leaving her in a critical condition.

“Medics treated the woman and provided her with several advanced life support interventions before she was airlifted by a private medical helicopter to a hospital in Johannesburg.”

Meiring said no one else was found injured at the scene. “Local authorities were in attendance for further investigations,” he concluded.
